The first Net Carbon Zero building was inaugurated on 28 September in Milan. It is called Open 336, from the street number where it is located in Viale Sarca. Located in the Bicocca district, it is the first Milanese building that captures CO2 and releases oxygen. Open 336 was designed by the Park Associati architecture studio for the American investment company Barings Real Estate. The building represents a model for the sustainable city of the future.
TECHNOLOGY AND SUSTAINABILITY
The ambitious high-tech inspired project reduces environmental impacts and consumption throughout its life cycle. Thanks to the use of innovative technology, the building captures CO2 like a tree but with a power about eight times higher than the natural one. The new building in the Bicocca district, in the former industrial area north-east of Milan, is spread over seven levels for office use, which integrate perfectly into the context and are surrounded by greenery. On the fourth and last floor of the building there is a 380 square meter terrace with a panoramic view towards the city. The peculiarity of the building is that it captures and stores much of the CO2 present in the atmosphere and releases cleaner, oxygen-rich air.
CO2 is captured thanks to the Fervo Group's Eco2Air filter which is made with organic and biodegradable material, including coffee grounds. The filter fills up after about 600 hours of use but can then be emptied of the accumulated CO2 to function regenerated for up to seven years. All consumption parameters are then analyzed by means of special sensors to always guarantee excellent operation.
